La Potence (“The Gallows”) is the name given to the astonishing remains of a castle built on the summit of the Baury volcano.

La Potence (14th century) is the remains of a castle that had 23 towers and 3 walled areas. It was restored in the last century and is famous for a line of machicolations suspended above empty space and left in position after the restoration work. You can enjoy a view over the Devès and Velay volcanoes, particularly Mont Bar, facing the town of Allègre. Easy access for cars.
