The impregnable fortress of Saint-Vidal is a famous sight in the Velay region, a historic landmark and an incredible defensive site. It was the scene of many battles. The Fortress and the development project were given the European Cultural Heritage label in 2018.

Saint-Vidal and French history
After a sleep of 20 years, the Saint-Vidal fortress is opening to the public again in 2019.
The Saint-Vidal gardens: there are three gardens to visit, a French-style garden, an Italian-style garden and a water garden with a pool reflecting the fortress.
Guided visits: explore the history of the fortress, its architecture and important defensive system. Come inside this age-old stone landmark and discover all its hidden secrets.

Indoor visit

Accessible from February to May, opening times vary.
Look up at the 30 metre-high structure and quake at the foot of the besieged fortress!
