Mont Bar is a unique European volcano, the only one of the Strombolian type with a peat bog in its crater.
Description
Strombolian volcano. Looking down from a height of 1167 metres on the medieval town of Allègre, this relatively young volcano (only 800,000 years old!) is unique in France for having a peat bog in its crater.
Hike: 2 hours (round trip), 160 m of ascent. Wear good walking shoes (steep path). Four interpretation panels have been set up in the crater. Parking: Allègre community centre.
