Since 1986, every 3rd weekend in September, the town of Puy-en-Velay rediscovers its Renaissance colors. The city takes the pretext of an ancient and authentic archery competition to plunge back into its glorious past. For four days, priority is given to street shows and the reconstruction of everyday life in the 16th century in the Velay. Canvas camps, cannon fights, mercenaries, craftsmen, Renaissance cuisine, pilgrims leaving for Santiago de Compostela make up a real living setting.
DAY 1 : Le Puy-en-Velay
Morning :
• Arrival early afternoon in Le Puy-en-Velay.
Afternoon :
• 14h30 : Your group will be welcomed by a guide from the Pays d'art et d'histoire, departure for the pedestrian tour of the city of Le Puy-en-Velay. Visit of Notre Dame du Puy Cathedral, a masterpiece of Romanesque art, classed UNESCO world heritage due to its position at the start of the Santiago de Compostela way.
A walk in the heart of a very old city.
The guide will also give you information about the Renaissance festival.
• Visit of Sabarot shop and presentation of the Le Puy Green Lentil AOP.
• Visit of Pagès shop and tasting of the famous green Vervein liquor.
• Installation in your hotel.
Le Puy by night :
• Dinner in a Renaissance tavern or restaurant to discover the Renaissance dishes.
• Show in Place du Breuil.
• Discover the various shows in the streets of Le Puy-en-Velay.
DAY 2 :
Morning : visit of Polignac Castle
• 9h30 : Departure from the hotel for the visit of the Fortress of Polignac.
This site was the birthplace of one of the most illustrious families in the history of France. Historical vestiges of the 11th century with walkway and unique defensive system. Powerful 14th century keep (32 meters) which allows you to enjoy an exceptional panorama.
• 12h00 : Lunch in a restaurant of the city.
Afternoon : Renaissance festival
• Discovery of the Renaissance market in the Jardin Henri Vinay.
• Street entertainment.
• Return to your area.
