Mont Bar is a unique European volcano, the only Strombolian-type volcano with a peat bog in its crater.
Strombolian volcano. This relatively young volcano (a mere 800,000 years old!) looks down from a height of 1167 metres on the medieval town of Allègre. It is a unique example in France of a volcano with a peat bog in its crater. Hike: 2-hour round trip, 3 km, 160 m altitude gain. Wear some good walking shoes (steep path).
