Description
You can limber up on the hills overlooking the Loire or make a last effort before reaching Europe’s last wild river.
Across the Emblavez plain, one of the few plains on the cycling route, you can enjoy the wide-open scenery with great views over the Velay volcanoes. When you arrive at Lavoûte, don’t forget to take a selfie in front of the Loire’s first chateau, Lavoûte-Polignac, which is still owned by the heirs of a great royal family.
From Lavoûte-sur-Loire, you can easily pay a visit to Le Puy-en-Velay, a gem of French heritage in a green setting, either by train or along the departmental road through the Loire gorges. But keep an eye out for traffic.
