The church was originally a priory in La Chaise-Dieu and probably dates from the 14th century. It contains rich medieval statuary made from polychrome wood, including a rare depiction of Mary Magdalene recumbent and a Christ with a spade.

The 12th century Virgin Mary in majesty is from Notre Dame d'Estours chapel.
