Craponne-sur-Arzon – Centre Historique

At the heart of Auvergne, in the northern Haute-Loire region and just a few miles from the neighbouring Loire and Puy-de-Dôme departments, the town of Craponne-sur-Arzon nestles on a granite plateau at the far north of the Velay region.

Description

The historic town centre of Craponne-sur-Arzon dates from the Middle Ages. The door tower, known as the Keep, remains from this period. Two towers from the 16th century (the Pasturel and the Marchédial towers) are still standing, bearing witness to the fortifications of that time.
The History, Archaeology and Geology Association of the Craponne Region regularly organises guided tours of this local heritage.
A free “paper” guide for the town is also available from the Tourist Information Office.
