Since 1983, the 200th anniversary of the first hot-air balloon flight, an international meeting has been held in Le Puy-en-Velay. The event is traditionally the last of the year. Teams from all over the world get together in Velay to round off the hot-air balloon season.

Every year in November, the sky above Le Puy-en-Velay is the playground for fans of hot-air ballooning. Major landmarks are chosen for the take off, including the Polignac fortress, Saint-Vidal Castle and Lake Bouchet.
